Pranee moved to Chiang Mai from Sukothai in Central Thailand 30 years ago, married, and started raising a family. To help bring money into the household, she set up a stand at the Sunday Market Street.
When Pranne started she did not speak one word of English when she started selling her homemade croquet items but little by little started picking up English words necessary to communicate enough to sell her handmade scarves, hats, purses, etc.
Being especially attracted to the beautiful stitching and fabrics from the neighboring Hilltribe communities Pranee started buying their fabrics and starting making purses and more from these fine fabrics, continuing to sell them at the Sunday Market, working from home starting with a couple of sewing machines set up downstairs in her home.
30 years latter Pranee manages a workshop for Ethnic Lanna consisting of 30 staff producing authentic Hilltribe clothing, handbags and jewelry. Today she recognizes the different stitches and fabrics from Thailand, China, Myanmar, Vietnam and more just by sight. This is a woman who knows her stuff. We will be visiting often while I interview some of her staff members from the different Hilltribes as we explore their customs and clothing and more.
